Heesu J Jeon Art Therapy
Hi, I’m Jinnie – a certified art therapist and registered therapeutic counsellor working primarily with children and older adults. I have 15+ years of combined work experience as an art therapist and art facilitator, and am passionate about the healthy growth and development of children, and well-being of elders.
I have a special interest in how creativity contributes to achieving balance among the physical, cognitive, emotional, and spiritual aspects of children’s personalities. And I am particularly interested in helping children deal with emotional, behavioral, and social challenges.
Having run both individual and group art therapy sessions at a complex care residential centre for several years, I also specialize in working with older adults around issues with mental health and dementia, life transitions, increasing relaxation, reducing stress, loneliness and boredom, facilitating expression, improving communication (verbal and nonverbal), and most importantly in discovering their own strengths and unique voice through the language of art.
In art therapy, individuals are invited to use a variety of art materials to channel their creativity and are then encouraged to talk about their art to explore and understand its significance. I provide a warm, non-judgmental, and safe space for individuals to engage in the creative art-making process.
NO PREVIOUS ART EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY.
ART THERAPY is a powerful and creative method of expression used as a technique in counselling. Through the use of art materials, individuals are encouraged to explore issues, strengths, and abilities. Often times, engaging in a creative art-making process helps individuals find new solutions to problems challenging them. With the support of an art therapist, individuals can connect with their inner worlds to explore new possibilities, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, and catalyze their personal growth. No specific art skills are required to draw, paint, or sculpt your feelings and thoughts.
All sessions take place In a safe and welcoming space to engage in art, to explore and express.
ART THERAPY helps all age groups at all stages of life to deal with a variety of issues such as ….
- Behavior Challenges
- Creativity & Self-Expression
- Developmental Delays
- Grief and Loss
